JEE Advanced comprises two papers. This year the exam was of moderate difficulty level. Paper 2, in general, was considered to be more time consuming and difficult. In Paper I, 7326 students were marked absent while 9731 students were marked absent in Paper II. Candidates can find below the paper-wise analysis for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced 2019 Paper I

Paper I consisted of three parts. A total of 54 questions were asked in Paper I with 18 questions each from all the respective sections. The number of questions remained same if compared to previous year. Maximum marks allotted for each part/subject was 60:

However, the total marks allocated changed from 183 to 180 this year. Each subject was further divided into three sections and the marking scheme varied for all the sections:

  • Section I had six questions in total. For all the correct responses, +4 marks will be rewarded while +1 for every correct response. No deduction in marks if the question is not attempted while 2 marks will be deducted for other cases. Maximum marks allotted to this section was 24.
  • Section II had eight questions with a numerical value being the correct answer. This numerical value for all the questions was to be rounded off to second decimal place. For every correct response, +3 marks will be given while no marks are awarded or deducted in any other case. The maximum marks for this section was also 24.
  • Section III included two long comprehensions with 2 objective type questions with 4 options. For every correct response +3 and -1 for any incorrect response. No marks will be deducted if question is not attempted. In total 12 marks were allotted to this section.

The general consensus among experts and students alike was that Physics was difficult while Mathematics and Chemistry were overall easy. No errors were spotted as of now in Paper I. Class 12th syllabi supposedly had a higher weightage in the exam.

JEE Advanced 2019 Paper II

JEE Advanced Paper II had a similar structure to Paper I. The paper comprised three parts – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics which were again divided into 3 sections. The total number of questions were again 54 (18 each from the three sections). The total marks allotted for Paper 2 was reduced from 183 to 180. The scoring system for Paper II was quite similar to Paper I.

  • Section I consisted of six questions with 4 options each. In case all the correct responses, +4 marks will be rewarded and +1 for each correct response. No marks are added or deducted in case of not attempting questions while 2 marks will be deducted for an incorrect response. Maximum marks allotted to this section was 24.
  • Section II again had eight questions with numerical value as the correct answer. All the numerical values were to be rounded off to second decimal place. +3 marks will be awarded to a correct response while no marks are awarded/deducted for incorrect responses or questions not attempted. The maximum marks for this section was also 24.
  • Section III comprised two long comprehensions with couple of objective type questions including 4 options each. For a correct response, +3 and -1 for an incorrect response. The questions not attempted were not scored. In total 12 marks were allotted to this section.

Mathematics in Paper II was the teasing section as it was consuming and difficult. Physics and Chemistry were the relatively easier section.
