JEE Main is an undergraduate entrance exam for admission into several engineering courses in different engineering colleges across India. To be eligible, you must be in the top 20 percentile score of class 12th. Only if you are eligible, you will be able to download JEE Main admit card releasing from December 17, 2018.

In this article we will discuss the detailed analysis over JEE Main previous year question papers and analyze the JEE Main Exam being held from 2015 till 2018.

From 2013, JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams were introduced by the HRD ministry which had replaced the earlier AIEEE and IIT JEE. There was no link between AIEEE and IIT JEE as they were two different exams.

From 2013 onward candidates have to qualify JEE Main exam and come up in the top 2, 20,000 candidates to be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced exam. In this year IIT Kanpur also increased the number who can appear for JEE Advanced 2018. From year 2018, 4000 more students were able to appear for JEE Advanced.

JEE Main 2018 Paper Analysis


All the National Institutes of Technology along with many other known engineering institutes consider the JEE Main and 12th standard’s score for graduate admissions. However from 2017 , NIT’s will only be considering JEE Main score for admissions and candidates will have to secure minimum 75% in 12th standard to be eligible for admissions into NIT’s and IIT’s.

Pattern of the JEE Main exam has not changed for the last five years. Subjects being asked in the paper are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and the questions are based on the syllabus of class 11th and 12th. It is a three hour long paper and there are 30 questions from each subject. Every correct answer fetches you 4 marks whereas for every wrong answer there is a negative marking of 1 marks.
